Women's Suffrage Research / Info in South Dakota

Interesting research being conducted by Liz Almlie of the SD State Historic Preservation Office. Can you help?

“Highlighting the History of Women’s Suffrage

I have been working on the history of women’s suffrage for nearly a year for different projects and efforts around the centennials of state suffrage in 2018 and the 19th amendment in 2019-2020.  There is so much interesting state and local history about the movement for equal suffrage…

I eventually started the following website (part of my personal blog site) to record my notes (in a refined version) as I work on them: https://historysouthdakota.wordpress.com/womens-suffrage-in-sodak/

I’d like to start a page on the site that features a list of local museums and archives with collection materials or exhibit displays about the suffrage movement.  I’d hope it would provide information for those who might be doing research, or looking for places to visit.

If you have information about your institution that you would like me to include on that page, I can present the information in a variety of ways – as a paragraph (or a few), or a list, or a website link, or photos…  Please also include the basics: institution name, address, contact info, hours (whatever is applicable).  You can contact me at ejalmlie@ole.augie.eduor liz.almlie@state.sd.us with information to include on my site, or with any questions.

If of interest, I’ve also started a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WomensSuffrageSoDak/to share histories and commemoration news, and I am the state coordinator for the digital heritage trail project being done by the National Collaborative for Women’s History Sites: http://ncwhs.org/votes-for-women-trail/

I’m also very willing to share notes I’ve found.  I can send copies of my notes (for what they are) for different individuals or towns if it would be useful for projects you may be working on.  Although, it’s all still very much ongoing J
