 Speakers - Mona Jackson and Blanche Farrar

Mona Jackson

Mona Kumar Jackson is an entrepreneur who is co-owner of Killian’s restaurant in Spearfish, SD. She also owned and operated a boutique (Ventana) in downtown Spearfish for a year and a half.

Mona holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology (1988), a Master’s degree in Education (1991) with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration, both from James Madison University and a certificate in Accounting (2012) from the University of Louisville. She was employed in Higher Education for over twenty years before segwaying into her adventures as an entrepreneur.

Mona has lived in the Northern Black Hills since the summer of 2014. In that time she has become involved with the community/city on many levels. She sits on the board of Visit Spearfish, is a planning member on two of the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SDCEO) committees, and is the current treasurer of the Downtown Business Association. As a local business owner she has had many opportunities to interface with the Chamber of Commerce and the Spearfish Economic Development Corporation.

Mona is married to Tom with whom she has two children (TJ and Chandi).

 Blanche Farrar

Blanche Farrar is the Manager of Everything Prehistoric, gift shop of the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research, Inc., and caretaker for the daily needs of the Museum at the Black Hills Institute in Hill City. 

In this capacity, she oversees purchasing, merchandising, advertising, event planning, shipping, sales, customer service, web development, social media, marketing and advertising. 

She enjoys and shares this work with a great team of dedicated team members at the Institute.
